About Professor Nocturne

Professor Nocturne is a long-eared owl, and he has never considered an empty page truly empty. A bit stern, deeply meticulous, and fond of beautiful details, he keeps watch over Evershade's collection of quills, inks, parchment, manuscripts, lettering examples, and illuminated pages. He has great respect for the generations of scribes and craftspeople whose careful hands helped preserve the written word.

His roots are in the United Kingdom. How a long-eared owl from Britain came to be living in Kansas is a story he has not yet chosen to tell in full, and those who know him have learned not to press. What is certain is that the Scrollwork Library suits him: quiet, lamplit, and full of other people's patient handwriting.

Nocturne encourages patience, craftsmanship, and the occasional decorative flourish when a perfectly ordinary capital letter could clearly have become something much more interesting.

Professor Nocturne's wax seal His wax seal — Professor Nocturne seals his notes with maroon-red wax. You will find them pinned throughout his lessons, and now and then elsewhere around the castle, wherever fine writing deserves a second look.
