The People of Evershade

KALI HOWELL

Kali is the founder and creator of the School of Evershade. She develops the school's courses, resources, characters, and growing world while overseeing whatever new project has found its way onto the list.

Evershade began with the idea that learning could be both meaningful and imaginative, and it continues to grow one classroom, lesson, and slightly unreasonable idea at a time.

HEADMASTER SQUIRTY McFLUFFENTAIL

Squirty McFluffentail keeps an eye on Evershade and everything happening within it, or at least everything he knows about.

He oversees the school, its faculty, and its scholars, makes his rounds through the castle, and generally considers himself responsible for anything that appears to require a Headmaster.

He takes the position very seriously.

PROFESSOR THISTLELOOM WEBBLETHORN

Professor Webblethorn has a habit of noticing marks that everyone else has walked past.

Patient, precise, and endlessly curious, she spends much of her time among inscriptions, ancient alphabets, clay tablets, carved stones, and manuscripts whose writers have been gone for centuries. She encourages her scholars to look closely, question easy assumptions, and remember that even the smallest mark may have something to say.

When she is not in the Runes & Ancient Writing classroom, she can often be found high in the Aerie with the scholars of Septentrio, usually with another question already in mind.

PROFESSOR VESPER GLIMMERWICK

Professor Glimmerwick keeps rather unusual hours.

From her place near the top of Evershade, she studies the night sky and the many ways people before us tried to understand it. Star charts, constellation stories, old calendars, astronomical instruments, and celestial traditions have a habit of accumulating wherever she works.

Warm, whimsical, and enthusiastically curious, Professor Glimmerwick believes studying the sky requires careful observation and a willingness to wonder.

She is also delighted by almost any excuse to visit the Observatory after dark.

PROFESSOR BERYL FERNFOOT

Professor Fernfoot is happiest when something nearby is growing.

Gentle, observant, and perpetually accompanied by a bit of soil or an unidentified leaf, she tends Evershade's greenhouse and gardens with the same patience she brings to her scholars. She believes plants are best understood by spending time with them: observing, recording, comparing, preserving, and occasionally waiting to see what happens next.

As Head of House Oriens, she also watches over the Basin, where new ideas are given plenty of room to take root.

PROFESSOR CRIMBLEBREW MUDDLENOOK

Professor Muddlenook can usually be located by following the sound of bubbling kettles.

His laboratory is crowded with jars, bottles, dried ingredients, measuring tools, handwritten notes, and at least one preparation he insists is behaving exactly as expected. Enthusiastic and endlessly willing to experiment, Muddlenook believes careful practice and curiosity belong at the same worktable.

As Head of House Meridies, he encourages the scholars of the Hearth to be brave enough to try, sensible enough to learn from what happens, and good-humored enough to admit when things have gone slightly sideways.

PROFESSOR COGBRANCH TIMBERCLANK

There are very few things Professor Timberclank believes are truly beyond repair.

Practical, inventive, and happiest with tools close at hand, he oversees a workshop filled with wood scraps, paper, pigments, clay, half-finished constructions, and objects being saved because they may prove useful eventually.

He encourages scholars to learn by making, experimenting, repairing, and working with what they have. As Head of House Occidens, he brings that same steady resourcefulness to the Terrace.

If you leave something unattended near his workshop, there is a reasonable chance it will return improved.

PROFESSOR QUILLBERRY NOCTURNE

Professor Nocturne has never considered an empty page truly empty.

Quietly meticulous and deeply fond of beautiful details, he keeps watch over Evershade's collection of quills, inks, parchment, manuscripts, lettering examples, and illuminated pages. He has great respect for the generations of scribes and craftspeople whose careful hands helped preserve the written word.

Nocturne encourages patience, craftsmanship, and the occasional decorative flourish when a perfectly ordinary capital letter could clearly have become something much more interesting.

PROFESSOR SABLE ROOKMERE

Professor Rookmere remembers everything she has ever read, and most of what she has overheard besides.

A raven, and keeper of the castle's creature records, she came to Evershade following a trail of travelers' tales to the ruined library, and stayed to put its records in order. Thought and Memory are her foundation: nothing in her hall is kept on one telling alone.

She teaches the Bestiary the way the records demand — when a being was first written down, who wrote it, how the telling grew, and what stands behind it. Where the record runs out, she says so; "we do not know" is a sentence she uses without embarrassment.

If a story about a beast has ever been written down, there is a reasonable chance it is filed in her hall.

HEAD STUDENT

Evershade's Head Student helps welcome scholars, represents the student community, and has a hand in shaping student life as the school grows.

The Head Student's Desk can be found in the Quadrivium, where scholars from all four Houses gather to share their work, ask questions, join discussions, and see what is happening around the school.

EVEREMBERS

Everembers are volunteers who bring Evershade's hands-on work to life on video. They film demonstrations of the practical parts of assignments, at Level One with household materials, Level Two with historically accurate materials, or both. Stills from their videos illustrate the lesson pages, so students can see the work take shape before they try it themselves.

PROFESSOR ASSISTANTS

Professor Assistants are volunteers who teach Evershade lessons on video for the school's YouTube channel, much as an assistant might help a professor present a class. Each one follows a lesson just as it is written on its lesson page, with a small portrait of the professor in the corner of the screen and a setting dressed for the classroom, so students can watch a lesson as well as read it.

One volunteer may hold both titles, and Eversparks are welcome to take up either.
