About Professor Fernfoot
Professor Fernfoot is a hedgehog, and she is the calmest creature in the castle. Gentle, observant, and patient, she believes plants are best understood by spending time with them: observing, recording, comparing, preserving, and occasionally waiting to see what happens next.
Her story began far from any garden. She was born in captivity, in a small indoor world, though her kind traces its roots back to Nigeria. She escaped, as determined hedgehogs sometimes do, and traveled until she found shelter in the ruins of a castle in Kansas. The greenhouse won her heart, and she has been putting down roots ever since, usually accompanied by a bit of soil or an unidentified leaf.
As Head of House Oriens, she also watches over the Basin, where new ideas are given plenty of room to take root.
A Note from Professor Fernfoot
Nothing in a garden is in a hurry, and neither are we. Come as you are, and we will learn the plants one leaf at a time.
