About Professor Muddlenook
Professor Muddlenook is a toad, and he can usually be located by following the sound of bubbling kettles. Meticulous, orderly, and a stickler for lab safety, he is also warm and endlessly willing to experiment, provided the experiment is measured, labeled, and written down first.
He is a Kansas native who lived in the wet low ground around the castle long before it was a school, and he was among the first creatures to make a home in the ruins. His laboratory is crowded with jars, bottles, dried ingredients, measuring tools, handwritten notes, and at least one preparation he insists is behaving exactly as expected.
As Head of House Meridies, he encourages the scholars of the Hearth to be brave enough to try, sensible enough to learn from what happens, and good-humored enough to admit when things have gone slightly sideways.

Professor — identifies a member of Evershade's teaching faculty.
Head of House — identifies the professor who oversees one of Evershade's four Houses.
His wax seal — Professor Muddlenook seals his notes with teal blue wax. You will find them pinned throughout his lessons, especially anywhere safety matters, and now and then elsewhere around the castle.
