The Common Room of House Occidens
Resilience • Groundedness • Resourcefulness • Balance
Welcome, Occidens.
Along the western side of Evershade, where the old castle begins to give way to the surrounding forest, you will find the Terrace.
Part of the original structure here has long since surrendered to time. Rather than shutting the forest back out, Evershade learned to share the space with it. Weathered stone arches frame the trees beyond, moss grows between the stones, sturdy tables and benches fill the sheltered portions of the room, and the Terrace catches the last warm light of evening.
This is your Common Room.
Bring what you're working on, what you've repaired, what you've learned to do with what was available, or something that is simply taking longer than you expected. Settle in with a project, share a solution, ask for another perspective, or see what your fellow Occidens scholars have been making and discovering.
The Terrace is a place for steady progress, practical ideas, resourceful solutions, and things worth taking the time to do well.
House Occidens
Direction: West
Season: Autumn
Element: Earth
Color Tradition: Tones
Virtues: Resilience, Groundedness, Resourcefulness, Balance
House Mascot: Constance the Porcupine
Head of House: Professor Cogbranch Timberclank
Common Room: The Terrace
Occidens scholars are builders, problem-solvers, and steady hands. They tend to work with what is available, find possibilities in overlooked things, and understand that worthwhile work does not always happen quickly.
Being Occidens does not mean you must be cautious, traditional, endlessly patient, or practical at the expense of imagination. Resourcefulness requires creativity. Resilience requires adaptation. Being grounded does not mean standing still.
Sometimes progress begins by looking at what you already have and finding another way forward.
What can I make of what I have?
What Happens on the Terrace?
This Common Room belongs primarily to the members of House Occidens.
Here you can:
introduce yourself to your fellow House members
share projects, solutions, collections, discoveries, and works in progress
talk about what you're studying elsewhere in Evershade
participate in Occidens activities and discussions
respond to questions, notices, and challenges from Professor Timberclank
vote on House ideas when decisions arise
suggest activities and traditions for the House
trade ideas when another scholar finds themselves stuck
share something you've repaired, reused, improved, preserved, or finally figured out
New posts will appear here as there is something worth gathering around.
Help Shape Occidens
The Houses of Evershade are still young.
Occidens does not come with centuries of traditions already written. Some things about the House are established, but much of its culture will grow from the scholars who actually belong to it.
What should Occidens celebrate?
What should happen on the Terrace each autumn?
What activities feel distinctly Occidens?
What traditions should future members inherit from the Eversparks who gathered here first?
You are welcome to suggest them.
Some ideas may remain ideas. Some may become activities. Others may begin with someone finding a clever use for something everyone else had overlooked and eventually become something the whole House looks forward to doing again.
Over time, the traditions that truly belong to Occidens will emerge from the people who make this room their own.
The story of Occidens is still being written.
Introduce Yourself
If you're among the first Occidens scholars to arrive on the Terrace, say hello in the comments below.
You can tell us as much or as little as you'd like. If you need somewhere to begin:
What brought you to Evershade?
What are you studying or exploring right now?
What made Occidens feel like your House?
What is something you've made, repaired, solved, or learned to do recently?
Or ignore the questions and introduce yourself however you prefer.
Welcome to the Terrace.
Find yourself a comfortable spot.
Professor Timberclank would probably remind you that a thing does not need to be new to be useful. Then he would disappear into his workshop with whatever you had been planning to throw away.
All scholars of Evershade are Eversparks first. Visitors from other Houses are welcome to look around the Terrace and learn about Occidens. We simply ask that House-specific discussions, decisions, and activities remain primarily in the hands of Occidens members.
