School Supplies
Every school has a basic list, the kit every student carries whatever classes they take, and Evershade is no different. This page is that list: the satchel, the notebooks, the writing tools, and the small instruments a scholar at a forest castle school keeps at hand. When a professor needs more than the basics, the professor's own supply list, linked below, adds the specialty items for that classroom.
Like everything at Evershade, the list runs at two levels of immersion. Level One is the household road: plain, inexpensive, and completely sufficient. Level Two is the castle road: the same kit in leather, brass, and parchment, for scholars who want their desk to feel like the school looks. Nothing at Level Two is ever required.

The Class Supply Lists
Each professor keeps a fuller list for their own classroom. Start here for the basics, then visit the list for every class you take.

How Many Notebooks?
One working notebook per class you are taking is the comfortable rule. Some classes name their own book: the Recipe Journal in Potions, the Grow Ledger in Herbology, the Sky Log in Celestial Studies. Those live on the professors' lists above. Add one commonplace book of your own for everything else: questions, sketches, field notes, and ideas that do not belong to any one class yet.
Level One: The Household Road
Level One is the household road. Everything on this side is a household item, a free material, or an inexpensive basic, and it is the whole kit: a scholar can take every class at Evershade with Level One stores alone. If you only ever shop this list, you are fully supplied.
Writing & Recording
- Pencils, and pens you like writing with — the scholar's first instruments, used in every classroom
- One notebook per class you are taking — plus one commonplace book for everything else
- Loose paper and card stock — for charts, drafts, maps, and builds
- Index cards — for vocabulary, star names, plant names, and recipe notes
- A folder or binder with dividers (another option) — one section per class
The Satchel & Desk
- A bag or satchel that fits your books and kit — everything travels together
- A pencil case, wrap, or pouch — for pens, pencils, and small tools
- Envelopes — for letters, seed saving, and keeping small papers safe
- String or twine, and a roll of tape — the two fasteners that solve half of school life
- A small box, tray, or basket — a home for desk findings
Measuring & Making
- A ruler — straight edges run the school, from ruled pages to measured plots
- Scissors — paper, card, ribbon, and plant work
- A craft knife and cutting mat — where the lessons call for one, with the care the Workshop teaches
- Glue — a glue stick or a bottle of white glue
- A protractor and a drawing compass — for sky charts, sundials, and geometry
Light & Looking
- A flashlight or lantern — for evening work, dimmed with red paper or cellophane when the sky is the lesson
- A magnifying glass or hand lens — leaves, letters, and small print all reward a closer look
- A clock, timer, or phone — timed observations run through every department
Cloth & the Kitchen Bench
- An apron or work shirt, and a cloth for spills — potions, inks, and garden work all mark their scholar
- Measuring cups and spoons — the kitchen is a laboratory that was already in your house
- A kitchen scale — for any class that weighs its materials
- A simple thermometer — water, soil, and air all have temperatures worth recording

Level Two: The Castle Road
Level Two is the castle road: the same basic kit in the materials a magical school would choose, leather and brass and parchment, gathered slowly. Nothing on this side is required. It is the same school bag, dressed for the castle.
Writing & Recording
- A quill or dip pen, with bottled ink and an inkwell — the castle way to take notes in any class
- A leather journal for each class that becomes your book of record — the notebook, kept for years
- Parchment-style paper and heavy card — for best work and finished pieces
- A wax seal and sealing wax — for letters, finished work, and anything worth closing properly
- Ribbon — for binding finished work the old way
The Satchel & Desk
- A leather satchel — the school bag itself, built to outlast the schooling
- A leather or wooden pen roll — quills and pens travel in state
- A wooden desk box or tray — instruments kept like instruments
- A scroll case or document tube — charts and finished pages travel rolled and safe
Measuring & Making
- A wooden or brass-edged ruler — the straight edge, made to be kept
- A brass compass and protractor set — for sky work drawn to last
- A self-healing cutting mat and metal ruler — cleaner cuts, kept tools
Light & Looking
- A brass or storm lantern — evening light, castle style
- A red-filter lantern — for night observing that keeps your night vision
- A brass hand lens — the closer look, in brass and glass
Cloth & the Kitchen Bench
- A linen or canvas apron with pockets — the working scholar's uniform
- A balance scale or brass scale — weighing as it was done for centuries
- A mortar and pestle — the oldest instrument on the bench
A Final Word
Gather slowly. A scholar's kit is built the way a library is built, a shelf at a time, and the school will never ask anyone to buy their way in. Start at Level One, learn well, and let Level Two arrive as gifts, finds, and occasions allow.
