THE LOTION CAULDRON

Lotions & creams, built in two phases — the Deep Shelf of the Potions Experiment.

An honest word from the laboratory. The method below is a proved emulsion framework with fixed, honest ratios — you choose the plant, the route, and the richness, but the builder will not improvise the emulsion itself. Keep it fresh and it lives a refrigerated week; choose the preserved route and the builder measures in a naturally derived broad-spectrum preservative at its supplier rate. What it will never do is pretend vitamin E or rosemary can preserve water.

Before you begin: an emulsion is two potions married at temperature. Read the whole recipe once before any pot touches heat.

Learn the Method Behind the Lotion

The emulsion itself is taught in Lesson 38 — why oil and water separate, and how an emulsifier plays go-between. The cauldron stands on that lesson and three more: the infused oil, the infusion, and the formulator's discipline. The cauldron applies them; these pages teach them.

Oil and water, persuaded to hold — that persuasion is Lesson 38's science, practiced here at the cauldron.
